Steady improvement has been achieved through six sessions after the initial evaluation. The footage you see here is a compilation of clips from the last three sessions. While Thor, Freeman, and Kinji still have a long way to go, they are definitely much further along than they were a month ago.
They are also destined to be confident and happy pups with the continued practice and exercise they will get from their fosters.
You’ll see a lot of repetitive leashing, then forced recall and quick release, which will prove to be progressively successful by the time you reach the end of the video. Short, structured walks with lots of random direction changes and pace changes have also been progressively instrumental in helping them overcome their hesitation and panic when they approach unfamiliar territory or traffic.
Hopefully we will have more updates, and the footage I’ve posted so far will be helpful to others dealing with traumatized and fearful dogs.
While all three have increased confidence, Freeman’s has increased most dramatically, and he was the one with who needed it most at the outset.
These pups are truly one of the most gratifying cases I’ve worked in my four decades of dog training and rehabilitation.
